Peppermint is a must have for your home aromatherapy kit. It's fabulous for headaches, aches and pains, congested breathing, nausea, shock, travel sickness and fatigue. 😇 It has also been said to help with digestion - both of food and new ideas! Its stimulating qualities can also help to clarify chakras.
Peppermint has had a number of therapeutic properties ascribed to it:
Analgesic, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, anti-viral, astringent, decongestant, digestive, stimulant, expectorant, insecticidal, nerve tonic and many more.
Peppermint oil should be used under doctor's supervision if pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not suitable for use with small children (under 6 years of age), and particularly needs to be kept away from the nose and face of infants and small children. If you are sensitive to aspirin or have a G6PD deficiency it is recommended to avoid the use of Peppermint oils.
It is not safe for cats but may be used around dogs or other large animals like horses. It should be diluted for topical application in order to avoid irritation or sensitisation. Check the individual product descripton but a general guideline is to dilute to 5% with a carrier oil.
