Green Cleaning Tips To Keep Your Home Spotless

Green cleaning methods keep your home spotless without the nasty chemicals used in most supermarket products. We live in a world where harsh chemical products are the norm and cleaning with potent fumes floating about somehow equates to a job-well-done. But toxic chemicals aren't necessary to keep your house sparkling and germ-free. Mother nature has created all of the compounds needed to disinfect and kill germs, spotlessly clean and have your house smelling fresh.

Are you worried about what chemicals you are literally pouring down your drain, and the effect they are having on our environment? Whether you're trying to reduce the noxious fumes from your cleaning products, trying to avoid possible carcinogens, or just want to save money, green cleaning is for you.

Natural products can act as simple, gentle cleaners as well as powerful disinfectants. Make your own green cleaning products so you know exactly what's in them (and exactly what's not). Try out these green cleaning alternatives for your next Sunday morning spring clean.

Window Cleaning

Forget coughing over toxic ammonia-based glass cleaners, while struggling to get a streak-free shine. Try cleaning your windows and mirrors with a simple mixture of lemon juice and water. You'll get windows so shiny you won't know what to do with yourself.

Try Tea Tree

Tea tree essential oil is a powerful antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal and antiseptic oil (yes, it's better than sliced bread). You can add 10 drops of tea tree to 2 cups of water to create a great, natural cleaning product that's ideal for bathrooms and showers. Its antifungal properties make it potent against mould and mildew. It can also be used as a safe disinfectant on high traffic areas of the house to deter any nasty germs.

Beat The Bugs

Try using rosemary oil as an insect deterrent. You can use it to treat an ant issue in the kitchen or to deter wasps around outdoor areas. Grow a rosemary bush in your garden and not only will you have seasoning for the best roast chicken in the street but you'll also keep snails and nasty vegetable bugs at bay.

Crayon Remover

When you've got a budding artist in the family who doesn't like to colour between the lines, try this natural recipe to remove any unwanted crayon marks. Simply combine a little lemon oil with 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply this mixture directly to any crayon / random goo / sticker residue, wipe and watch it disappear.

All-Purpose Cleaner

When you're just looking for something a little extra to wipe down that messy bench or add a little sparkle to the kitchen table, reach for this simple, all-purpose cleaner combination. Use 3 parts white vinegar and 1 part water with 10 drops of your choice of essential oil. You might like to add lavender as it's a fresh scented but highly effective oil that has antibacterial properties. This means not only will your house smell fabulous but you can rest assured knowing that it's germ-free for the family.
