If you've had enough of all those Christmas oil blends that smell "warm and comforting" then you're in for a treat. Plant Therapy's Frosted Mint is a cool and refreshing blend that will make you feel crisp and energised. Feel free to use it in your diffusers or home made room sprays as it's also kidsafe. Use it in a personal inhaler for when you need to clear your head - and nose as it's great for that, too.

You can even use this blend in your home made carpet freshener. Simply put some bicarb soda into a glass jar, add 8-10 drops of Frosted Mint and shake well to mix. Sprinkle on your carpets, let it sit for 30-60 minutes while you enjoy a cool drink, then vacuum. Clean carpets, clean smelling house!

How to use Essential Oils

Diffuse

Add 2-4 drops of essential oil to your diffuser after having added water to the fill line. Some oils may require 4-8 drops to be added.

Massage

Essential oils should always be diluted before applying to the skin. Blend essential oil with coconut oil, almond oil or any other suitable carrier oil for massage.

Inhalation

Essential oils suitable for inhalation should be diluted by adding 1-2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming water. Place a towel over your head and the bowl of water. With your eyes closed, inhale the scent for up to 5 minutes at a time.

Other uses

You can add 3-5 drops of essential oil to a full bath of water, or onto a face washer placed in the bottom of your shower.

Rollerbottles are handy for ‘on the go’ applications – simply fill a rollerbottle with your preferred carrier oil and add some drops of your essential oil. You can also fit a rollerball top to an essential oil bottle rather than using a separate bottle – make sure to dilute your oil however. If that sounds like too much work, you can simply purchase ready made rollerbottles.

Essential oils are great additions to bases to make your own personal care items such as soaps, face creams or shampoos. You can also use essential oils to help cut down on chemicals in your cleaning supplies. Make sure to check out our blog articles for more ideas!

Safety Cautions

Essential oils are natural, but they are also concentrated. We recommend following basic safety precautions when using your oils:

  • Essential oils should not be ingested, unless it is under the guidance of a suitably qualified practitioner.

  • Do not use oils undiluted on the skin, unless the instructions permit otherwise. Many oils can cause irritation when placed directly on skin, particularly on sensitive areas such as the eyes or mouth. Some oils (particularly those in the citrus family) can cause photosensitivity if used prior to going out in the sun - please check instructions carefully.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult your healthcare practitioner prior to using essential oils. As a general guideline, oils should be avoided for the first four months of pregnancy and never used undiluted. Some oils should be avoided during pregnancy: Bay, Basil, Cedar wood, Clary Sage, Comfrey, Cypress, Fennel, Ginger, Hyssop, Jasmine, Juniper, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Melissa, Myrrh, Peppermint, Rose, Rosemary, Sage & Thyme.

  • Children can be particularly affected by essential oils. Some oils should not be used in children under the age of 7, and specific dilution ratios are recommended depending on the essential oil and the age of the child. We recommend consulting an appropriate practitioner prior to using oils on children.
